I had a photoblog on Blogger that had an old template, which gave me some problems. So I made this blog and shifted all my posts here. However, a friend has helped to resolve my problems with my old blog and has changed it with a new template. I prefer going back to my old blog! Angels – Angeli – देवदूत

Rome, Italy: The figure of angels in the western myths, doesn’t have a similar counterpart in Indian myths. In Indian myths there are “pari”, good and magical women with wings, while often angels are depicted with male or androgynous bodies. St. Angel’s castle and bridge in front of Vatican city are full of angel statues.

 

रोम, इटलीः पश्चिमी देशों के कल्पना जगत में जिस तरह से देवदूत होते हैं, भारतीय मिथिक जगत में नहीं होते. भारतीय परिकल्पना में परियाँ होती हैं, जबकि पँख वाले देवदूत अधिकतर पुरुष शरीर वाले बनाये जाते हैं, हालाँकि कहते हैं कि देवदूतों का लिंग नहीं होता. रोम में वेटीकेन के सामने सेंट एँजेल किला और पुल हैं जो देवदूतों की मूर्तियों से भरे हैं.

Roma, Italia: La figura del angelo nella mitologia occidentale, non trova corrispettivo nella mitologia indiana. La mitologia indiana ha le figure di “pari”, donne buone con le ali, capace di magia mentre la maggior parte delle rappresentazioni degli angeli sono con dei corpi più maschili o androgini. La zona di Castel Sant’Angelo vicino alla città del Vaticano, è piena delle statue di angeli.

 

Forgotten faces – Facce dimenticate – भूले चेहरे

Rome, Italy: The well known, beautiful and immense park of Villa Borghese in Rome has many statues of soldiers who died in the second world war that fascinate me. When someone dies, they make all kinds of speeches, that they will never forget the sacrifice, etc. but looking at those statues it seems that no one remembers them any more.

रोम, इटलीः रोम के प्रसिद्ध विल्ला बोरगेज़े के वृहद बाग में एक ओर द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध में मरने वाले सिपाहियों की मूर्तियाँ भी हैं. कुछ चेहरों पर उद्दंड लड़कों ने काले रंग पोत दिये हैं. जब कोई मरता है तो कितनी बाते होती हैं कि तुम्हारा बलिदान नहीं भूलेंगे, जब तक चाँद तारे रहेंगे, तुम्हारे त्याग को याद किया जायेगा, पर इन भूले चेहरों को देखो तो लगता है कि उन पर रोने वाले घर वाले भी उन्हें भूल चुके हैं या मर खप गये हैं.

Roma, Italia: Il bello, famoso e immenso parco di Villa Borghese a Roma, ha in un angolo molte statue dei soldati morti nella seconda guerra mondiale, che mi piacciono. Quando qualcuno muore, si fanno grandi discorsi che nessuno dimenticherà il loro grande sacrificio, ma se guardo queste statue, penso che nessuno di ricorda più di loro.

Imposing monument – Monumento imponente – भव्य स्मारक

रोम, इटलीः रोम में प्रथम महायुद्ध का भव्य स्मारक जिसे “अल्तारे देल्ला पात्रिया” यानि “पित्रभूमि का पूजास्थल” संध्या को रोशनी से जगमगाने लगता है और बहुत सुंदर लगता है. लेकिन विचारात्मक स्तर पर मुझे यह स्मारक बिल्कुल पंसद नहीं, पुरुष शक्ति और युद्ध में अपने देश की ताकत को दरशाने के लिए बने इसी स्मारक के सामने, पालात्ज़ो वेनेत्ज़िया के भवन से द्वितीय महायुद्ध के दौरान इटली के तानाशाह मुसोलीनी भाषण देते थे.

Rome, Italy: Same thing can be beautiful and ugly at the same time. I like this imposing “Altar to the fatherland” and yet at another level, I don’t like it since to me it is a symbol of brute power and war. During the second world war, Mussolini used to speak to the people from the balcony of Palazzo Venezia on the right side of the square.

Roma, Italia: La stessa cosa può essere bella e brutta allo stesso momento! Mi piace l’imponente monumento di Altare della Patria, ma in un altro modo, non mi piace perché simboleggia forza brutale e la guerra. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, Mussolini parlava al popolo dal balcone di Palazzo Venezia alla destra della piazza.
